Guest guest
<< CMT (in my living family) starts with my Grandmother (walker 50, wheel chair 65), my two uncles have it & my mom, three of my four sisters have it & I have it. So much for fifty/fifty chance of passing it on -- it hasn't worked that way in my family for a few generations. >> Hi Natilee, Welcome to the group. Regarding the 50% chance, I assume you have type 1A since you were confirmed by the genetic test which doesn't apply to most of the other types. Type 1A is Autosomal Dominant, which means that there is a 50% chance, in EACH pregnancy, of the children of the affected person having CMT. Each child has the same 50% chance no matter how many children are born. In some families the hit rate is up to 100%. In some families it's a small hit rate. It varies and seems to be unpredictable. There is an incidence of 18% sporadic cases of type 1A with no family history. I hope this helps. Any time you have questions or suggestions, always feel free to speak up. What problems if any have you run into? They think my Dad may have had a very mild case. he was not every really bothered by it if thats what he had. jenny
