Guest guest
Kathleen, re: 18 % sparodic. Does that mean that the family didn't have the gene but know they do? or that they have CMT 1A symtoms without the gene. My symptoms are very mild. My balance usually only bothers me going down stairs. Although lately if I have a drink the balance issue becomes very noticeable to me (I feel really dizzy). Because I know I have CMT -- I am very aware of new issues/symtoms and that can be very helpful. I will either chose to sip smaller glasses of wine or not induldge at all. My hands go to sleep really easily *sometimes.* While typing, holding a mouse, gripping a magazine or when I am sleeping. The morning are worst for me. I have less problems as the day goes on. When I am sleeping (I like to sleep on my side) I prop pillows around me so I am appling as little pressure as possible to arms (a pillow on either side of my arms and one over top). This is comfortable for me. I don't have the strength that I use to, in my hands, but I am fortunate enough to have family around to help me out with jars and such. Later I can get some tools to help me -- how else can I get around the difficulty of opening jars? I am very fortunate. I work afternoons at the local library, and so far, I am doing my job effectively. Holding a pencil, along with the issues mentioned above are problems I am able to overcome. I can carry books around and put them away, even squatting for the bottom shelf is not an issue for me. And I can still sprint across the library to get the phone. Celebrating all that i can do.
