Guest guest
<< I would like to know what the side affects are before I discuss this med with my Dr. >> Everyone, whether they have CMT or not, reacts differently to medication. People with CMT, especially those with Type 2 appear to be ultra-sensitive to medications of all kinds. Neurontin (Gabapentin) was passed by the FDA in 1996-7 which means it has been on the market less than 5 years. You need to know that if you are taking ANY medication that has been on the market less than 5 years, then you are being a guinea pig because the side effects are not yet all known or proven. Any pharmacist will confirm this information. -- Some CMTers have had remarkable relief from pain with the use of Neurontin and very good results, BUT there are roughly an equal number who have experienced serious side effects and exacerbation of their symptoms with the use of even minimal doses of Neurontin. Also please be aware that any drug which affects the nervous system in any way may have negative effects on your CMT. -- If you have spots before your eyes when taking Neurontin, for example, you must notify your physician immediately. Please everyone be aware ANY drug can cause more problems for you than it fixes and it is a matter of finding the right combination and right amounts for YOUR body. No one can tell you how drugs will react in YOUR body...it is a matter of trial and error!
