Guest guest
Hello. I'm new to this and I'm very interested in any information I can get. I've had rls for about 15 yrs. but until 3 years ago I didn't know what was wrong. I began taking Sinemet and quickly developed augmentation, but I'm still taking it because I don't know what else to do. I take 1/2 of a 25-100 mgm tablet every 3 hours around the clock. Has anyone heard that Prozac may interfere with Sinemet, or even exacerbate the rls? What is Mirapex? I finally saw a neurologist Last year and he wanted me to take Clonazepam, but I haven't had the nerve to start. He also wanted me to have a sleep-study to confirm the diagnosis. Has anyone had one? From reading your mail to each other I realize I'm way behind you. I'm impressed with how much you seem to know about this. Any info. and opinions would be gratefully received. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Barbara and welcome to the fold. The prevailing opinion on sleep studies for RLS is that it isn't necessary. The symptoms alone are usually enough for a diagnosis. But sleep studies for PLMD (periodic limb movement disorder) are in order as that happens during sleep. Clonazepam (Klonopin) made me into a zombie. I now take Permax which is working quite well. Mirapex is a popular and comparatively new medication used for RLS (I think it was primarily developed for Parkinson's disease). You'll find that no one medication works for all. We all just keep plugging along hoping for the best in finding some relief. You can get a list of all the medications with explanations from the Southern California RLS Support Group Treatment Page.
