Guest guest
Hi ee, I haven't noticed any cracking on the plastic. Do you mean the black plastic or the yellow rubbery stuff? I know we got our shoes around the same time though, so I will be on the lookout! The yellow part of Kaitlin's shoes is looking VERY dingy and grayish in several spots...not sure why though or how to clean it off. The idea about the dremmel is excellent. I might try that too or something similar because we don't have a dremmel. Freeman

Guest guest
We too have had cracking in the black plastic on the back of the shoes. As much as they cost, you would think this wouldn't happen. Of course, my son tends to bang his feet against everything. Guest guest
i wish i could send a photo.......its the black plastic that is chipping. Guest guest
It's funny because Kaitlin stayed with my stepmom today and when I picked her up both of her shoes are cracked in the front. Well, actually, they are not really cracked as much as they are missing pieces. Like part of the plastic around the toes got chipped off from banging on something (like a hard floor). I am thinking of putting some type of caulk or glue or something to cushion and protect the area from more chipping. What do you think? Funny how this happened at the exact time we are discussing it. I was picturing cracks running throught the plastic, but now I see what you mean. (wish I didn't!) We should mention this to as there are a few of us with this experience. Guest guest
Yes , please do keep us posted on what says. I completely agree. I am glad that you contacted him. When I mentioned the new " cleats " on the bottom hurt he said he will redesign them without the " cleats " again because a few people had mentioned this to him. He said he never thought about the pain aspect that he was only trying to add his logo in a creative way and make the shoes look more like regular shoes. He really does try to take our suggestions and use them to improve the shoes. Kinks are to be expected since they are so new. I totally agree on the point that I don't know what we would do without the shoes. I think they are wonderful, cleats and all. The very few and minor problems are fixable and could not be nearly as bad as sores. We also had a bad experience with the Markells. Now when Kaitlin cries, I know it is because of something other than her shoes. I am so thankful for l and his dedication to the comfort of our babies. I believe he will fix the problem about the cracking plastic if he can. Freeman
Guest guest
We are having the same problem with Claire's shoes. Plastic has chipped off in two places near the toes. There is also a larger piece that is cracked. I don't know if I should pull it off or leave it on. I don't want it to come off in her bed and have her put it in her mouth. I'm not sure how crucial that plastic is in holding the shoes together. My husband seems to think that they won't fall apart. He says they are put together well, the plastic isn't doing much to the shoes around the toe area. That's just his opinion, I don't know that for sure. I did e-mail today about this issue. I told him where the plastic was breaking and that it sounds like others are having this same problem. We'll see what he has to say. When Claire first started to wear the shoes, she developed some sores where the middle strap buckles. I wrote and told Dr. Ponseti about it. He must have told , because called me the same night. The next morning I received some pads that he had made to put on the middle flap. He was very apologetic that she had these sores. He felt very bad because he said his main goal is to make a shoe that the babies are comfortable in. I know he will do everything he can to improve these shoes. They are awesome shoes and I don't know what we would do without them. We had an awful experience with the Markells because she has severe atypical cf. I'll keep everyone posted if I hear back from him. He usually responds very quickly. Guest guest
Geeze you guys are scaring me with these two breaking-shoe stories! My Everett is such a little piece of dynamite I really wonder if his won't break too? How are yours breaking? I mean what is the child or you doing with the shoe when it happens? s. shoes My son just received his second set of the mitchell shoes 2 weeks ago and the left shoe has already broke in half. The pair we had before lasted about 6 months. I called this morning and he said he would send us a new pair but the problem is that my son does not have any shoes until then. I am very grateful to though because my son would not be able to be corrected without his shoes because the dbb shoes would not fit my son. I just hope he gets them to us soon because he is still supposed to where them 18 hours a day. By the way, i am new to this website. My son has been seeing Dr. Ponsetti since he was 5 months old. He is now 13 months and doing good. Our last appointment was on 9/20/04 and we dont have to go back until January.
Guest guest
Oh I agree, I'm all behind and his efforts! His shoes have saved us too. s. shoes My son is very big. He is 13 months old and weighs 28 pounds. He stands on them and is very hard on them. The first pair of shoes we had i think were made with a differant plastic and he never had a problem with them. They lasted a long time. It may take some time but i am sure that will get the shoes perfected. My son is in the 5% that have to have these shoes because there are no other shoes that will fit him. Like i said i am very grateful to him and am willing to put up with the changes and so forth until he gets it perfected.
Guest guest
We have the same problem with the chipping plastic. Last month when we were in IC we saw and he is ware of the problem and is working on trying to fix it. He didn't think it would affect the shoes integrity over all. – I also had the problem with the middle buckle causing a sore. I used a little moleskin and haven't had that problem sense. I guess we were the first people to have this problem with the shoes. Glad that you got it resolved.
