Guest guest
When I join a new list, no matter how excited I am, I try to lurk for awhile so as to get the drift of the list and see what threads are being discussed. It is too easy to be quick to criticize others on the list when you don't really understand the threads, the personalities, and such. Our list, RLS, is a people list! People have many many different aspects that touch RLS in one way or the other. People have other problems that don't immediately seem directly related to RLS but they are important, none-the-less! Our list is a support list..........that includes every facet of our lives that is " touched " by RLS. I remember when I joined a new diabetes e-mail list and I was so excited and so eager to learn about diabetes. Much to my dismay, several of the posts seemed to have nothing to do with diabetes........e.g. hepatitis C, cancer, it is snowing outside, my dog has green poop, etc. I, too, was quick to rip off a post criticizing the list for not sticking to the subject at hand. Luckily, the other list members were gentle in their correction of my selfish attitude. With time, I learned to appreciate that many things that seem " inappropriate " , " off topic " , " not related to the subject matter " and such at the moment, were very appropriate, very related to the subject matter and not really off topic at all once you learned the " big picture. " Hence, I would warmly and gently suggest to our " anxious " newbies to be patient and learn about us and with us. Be slow to rip off those critical e- mails. This is a support group! We all give, need and receive support in many various ways! Thank you for your understanding.........you won't regret it! IMHO RAINBOWPED@... Guest guest
, Your letter to the newbies is just what the " doctor " ordered ) I, too, was a newbie not too long ago and I lurked some and interacted some. I still do that. If a topic is not for me, I don't worry about it. If it is important to me - I respond. I think we are all like that in varying degrees. We come here to listen, share, question, and inform, and have some fun. At least that is the way I look at it. Lynn Ga.
