Guest guest
Hello Helen, I guess that in my case, with anything new as a sign, it is an indication for me to seek medical attention. I however, have stayed WAY away from Neurologists for 20 year. Instead, my Internist is great and can handle most everything. From there, my orthopedist is great. And from there, I go to the Orthotist. The only 2 major changes in me and my CMT in the last 5 or so years have been 1) needing full in-shoe orthotics, as opposed to half ones and 2) having 'electrical' type pain that started last year and is under control thanks to Neurontin. I would say that anytime one of your life's activities gets difficult, like say, when I was in Australia, I had some 'unexplained' pain from all the walking I was doing in the rainforrests.(so who doesn't have trouble walking in mud?) When I got home, even back on city streets, I still had it, so to the Internist first, then directly to the Orthotist who made new orthotics. In no time I was back to daily walks with no pain and traveling again. I have had to observe myself alot and especially the pain issue, because if I get something 'new', sometimes in my CMT life, I have symptoms that dissappear and don't come back (such as numbness - used to get numb arms, not for 25 year now) No neurologist could ever explain this or anything else to me and just wanted to give me braces and stuff me with medications. My current Drs. are the best and we all work together as a team. So, when one of your activities in your daily life starts being affected, perhaps I would suggest going to the Dr. and getting the new symptom evaluated.
