Hello everyone, on the subject of tripping - AND the use of nightlights,

my hall light burned out as I headed for bed, making a mental note to

replace the bulb in the a.m. Then I noticed it was really dark in the

hall ....the nightlight didn't go on, it burned out too. The next thing

I knew was falling over/into my dogs, who were right in front of me,

leading the way. They broke my fall and we all ended up on the floor in

a degree of panic. The good news is we all survived with no broken bones

or ankle sprains and new lightbulbs were installed today.

I am thinking of getting a cane/chair thing to take outside with me, it

is more portable than a folding chair and takes up less space. I guess

what I have in mind is like something used at the racetrack. Does anyone

have something like this or know where I could find one?

Gretchen,

I think I have what you are looking for. It is a light weight

metal walking cane that unfolds into a small, three leg seat with no

back. Sometimes when I am walking it trys to unfold but that was

easy to fix with velcrow. I have trouble with my hands now so I have

built up the handle with foam and duct tape borrowed from Red Green,

Ha! Ha! Now I keep it attached to my hand when walking with an

elastic wrist band and those curly elastic shoe laces. Anyway- it

has been the best thing I ever purchased. I take it every where and

have had it for at least 9 years now. You can purchase it and other

similar cane/seats at most home health care places such as those

places where they sell wheelchairs. Mine is from a company called

Carex, Newark, NJ 07114 and cost $39.

I hope this helps. I also saw Janny's post- You do have to be

careful in using it. Make sure the ground is solid and you won't

tip. Have one of the persons at the home health care store show you

how to walk and sit with it because it must be used right or you can

tip over. H
