Guest guest
<< How long might it be before these signs are severe enough to make the person think they had better go see a doctor to find out what is going on? >> If the person needs orthotics or AFOs s/he would need to go to the doctor for an evaluation or prescription. CMT is mostly adjusting to changes, rather than treatment, so a doctor may not be needed at all. It depends on the person and that individual's progression. We vary ever so much. Since my diagnosis I have not been back to my neuro because I have no problems he can help with. But that's just me. Being diagnosed may not help much other than to let the person know it isn't her/his fault!!!! How it may affect insurance may be a concern, too. That's why I don't encourage people to have their children diagnosed before they have a need. It may be that just using a cane or walking stick, and later a walker will be enough. Both help with balance or to prevent falls. We are all different. I hope this helps. Do keep asking questions because we have had a variety of experiences and different people may have better suggestions. Kat
