I, too, wish that I could just " wish away " my RLS symptoms by being distracted

and/or ignoring it. Unfortunately, when my RLS " acts up " I can't make it go

away by playing mental games, using biofeedback, self-hypnosis or whatever.

Perhaps some people have stronger mental abilities to do this or perhaps their

RLS is milder than others. I don't know but I do know that RLS is a slippery

monster that affects/effects all of us in a many a varied ways and it has a

mind of its own. I get so frustrated, irritated and angry with my RLS because

it seems to play games with me.....just when I think I have it figured out or

have some medical regimen that seems to control

it......viola.....dejavu........bingo......guess what? The rules have

changed....back to square one again and again and again and again........RLS

seems to be an ever-changing beast that always wants the last word and the

last laugh at my puny efforts to tame it. However, I will not give up hope

and yes, we need much more research. It is my opinion that RLS will

eventually be understood and sub-divided into different types just like

diabetes is divided into several major categories/types(Type 1, Type 2,

Gestational, Impaired glucose tolerance, etc.). This would explain why so

many of us have different experiences with RLS, different degrees and require

different treatments. A Type 1 diabetic needs insulin whereas most Type 2

diabetics need different medicines - you don't treat them the same even though

they both deal with blood sugar problems.
