Hi, All......

I received so many nice, warm fuzzies from people in the group in regard to my

bad night again last night .........and I really appreciate the

thoughtfulness.

I wrote that letter not so much to complain about what I was going through, as

to take the opportunity to describe to you all how my RLS felt, while I was

actually going through it. All of our symptoms are so different, it

seems........and it's difficult to describe them if we're not feeling them at

the moment. Sometimes, our attacks are different.....not always exactly the

same......which makes it harder to describe also.

Several people thought what I was experiencing was severe pain......which is

not true. There was some pain, but mostly it was an electrical type of

feeling....seizure type........deep inside, throbbing, jumping, unbearable

kind of feeling......that makes you want to scream.

It just brings me to tears sometimes..........much as I hate to admit that.

The codeine I take is not for pain.......it is to stop the sensation of the

jumpiness from communicating with my brain. It numbs the feelings so that I

can lie still and go to sleep again.

Several wondered if this was indeed RLS.........absolutely, positively YES.

This is my RLS.........twitchy, jumpy, jerky, miserable RLS.

Perhaps tonight will be better........sleep well, everyone........

Connie,

I can totally relate to your feelings - I've been having the same thing

for 2 weeks now - it's driving me crazy. Every night I think it will be

different, and it's not. Maybe it's something about the month of

January?! I am so angry and frustrated that I'm taking it out on my

husband, and may be a single woman before too long! This will pass, for

all of us, just have to hang in there for a while.

Connie,

You described my RLS to a T. It is not a pain(only sometime pain) but it's

a deep down feeling. I especially feel like it's an electrical current going

through

me. trying to describe it to someone else is very difficult, but you hit the

nail on the head. When mine gets that bad the only thing that will stop it is

codeine. Right now

I have reduced my mirapex and started taking tension tamer in the form of

capsules.

So far for the last 3 days I've had some improvement. I'm not sleeping through

the night, but more than before. Hopefully this will last.for awhile.

Try the hypoglycemic diet. There are a number of books out there on it.

High protein and low carbs will straighten you out. Hard on the kidneys so

make sure you drink at least 1/2 of your body weight in ounces to flush out

your kidneys on a regular basis.

you have discovered what many already know, but most rosaceans

will not alter their eating and drinking habits and want other

treatment. You can find all this information at the following sites:

I've a friend who's in final year medicine. I've discussed these non-carb

(protein-oriented) diets with him, and he had a very bad opinion of them.

Said that the only fuel source that can drive the brain to a satisfactory

level is glucose. We can't manufacture glucose from other energy sources

and we must therefore ingest it.

The brain can run on something else called ketones apparently, but not

very well.

Moral: non-carb diets can turn you into an aggravated, stupid person. At

least for the duration of the diet.

Mind you, that's just what I've heard.

Stuart,

you friend is missinformed. You can utilize protein two ways:

(1) Protein synthesis

(2) The body can break down fat and protein into glucose which is what

the brain requires. Glucogon which is another hormone the pancreas

makes is used in the process along with a host of other factors.

(3) Most low carb diets are just that, low carb and allow some

carbohydrates which can be used for glucose which the brain needs.

My apologies to everyone for my seemingly misinformed post. In the

interest of furthering knowledge on this subject, I shall discuss your

replies with my friend and report back if he has anything interesting to

say.

It was only what I had heard, and I certainly didn't mean to give offence.
