Well, when I can get my pain mostly is at night, and that's when I take my medication, Neurontin. I try to do light exercise, mostly biking or gardening in the mornings when I am more alert, fresher and well rested. As for eating right, I eat mostly chicken, fish, fruit, vegetables, salads, some pasta, whole grains like in good bread. Not any sugar or sweets. I did Yoga for awhile, this kept me flexible and helped me stay limber. As for the pain, don't push yourself too hard. As for the weight loss, maybe some increase in protein would help.
