Guest guest
Hello, everyone. Thanks for the warm welcome you extended to me when I joined the group. It was gratifying to hear from others who have CMT. I was beginning to believe I was a " lone ranger " never having met anyone who had CMT. What I don't understand is if this is supposed to be an inherited disorder why there doesn't appear to be any other cases in my family. I am the youngest of four children, ranging in age from 49 to 59, and the only one with overt symptoms. My sister, the eldest, had a different father which migh account for her escaping but neither of my two brothers has any sign of CMT. My mother doesn't recall any of her siblings or parents having anything like the symptoms of CMT. Most of my dads relatives died fairly youngish from alcoholism. I was 33 before I had a diagnosis. My mother felt guilty for a long time thinking she was somehow responsible. I was pretty clumsy as a child and used to have scarred knees a lot from falling. It has been only the last few years that the pains seem to be unbearable sometimes. I started walking with a cane a little over a year ago. Does anyone know if CMT affects internal organs like the kidneys or stomach?? Thanks again for the welcome. PS Does anyone live in the Seattle area? Would like to hear from anybody who does. .
