In addition to the points you make a, another problem is that when a patient does have a bacterial illness and is prescribed an antibiotic, he or she may fail to take the entire course of medication so a few microbes survive and become stronger and more resistant to antibiotics. Guest guest Posted March 11, 2000 Report Share Posted March 11, 2000 Hi Ruth and all, I too, over the years, had to take newer and stronger doses of antibiotics, the most recent was about 9 years ago when I had a staph infection, headed into the bone. That was about 2 weeks of IV antibiotics, and about 3 more months on oral. I don't know if this has a CMT relation or not, but have seen on the news where antibiotic-resistant strains of everything are coming up, and new ones have to be given out and developed further.
