Geez, maybe us RLS'ers are " just " allergic to >something, uh, uh, like maybe sleep? I am allergic to many things, mostly grass pollen, molds, and dust mites. My allergies cause a respiratory reaction, either asthma or hay fever. I have never made any connection between my RLS and my allergies. They seem to be separate beasts, though they both interfere with my sleep. And the only meds that work on my allergies make my RLS worse, so I try to stay away from those meds too. Has anyone else connected RLS with allergies? I havent' read about that anywhere. Or were you just being sarcastic ? >I have a problem with ADHD being so intertwined with RLS. >I suspect that ADHD is such a wide diagnostic net, it catches many of >us with RLS too. To connect the two and assume that some treatment for one >will somehow treat the other is controversial to say the least. I was tested for ADD, but I do not have it. I had only gotten about an hour of sleep the night before, but even sleep deprived I was able to pass the test. So I am living proof that not everyone with RLS has ADD. But I do think the symptoms of sleep deprivation are very similar to ADD, and the wriggling of RLS can certainly look like hyperactivity. One of my closest friends just finished med school and is beginning her residency as a child psychiatrist. I have discussed my theories with her and she may be in a position soon to initiate research in this area. It will be interesting to see what she discovers.
