I made a call to the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons an asked the same question. Their answer was that a DPM spends three years concentrating on the foot whereas an ortho spends only a portion. I personally have been to four ortho's and was not comfortable that they knew CMT. So I agree with the answer given by someone that the proper answer is to find a doctor, regardless of type, who fully understands the CMT, it's effects and what the foot needs to do after a procedure. 1. In laymans language, you asked about the procedure. He basically fused three bones on the top of my foot, took a wedge from my heel and pulled the foot around to become square to the leg (it was rolling under as I walked).
