Take it from me, I have something like CMT but it is more severe, I use a wheelchair for mobility and have a service dog. Let's get this straight now, children are wonderful to me, even the teens. It's the older people, the rude old people. They are the ones who stare. I believe most older people are amazed that I did not find the dignity to kill myself. On the contrary; one who decides to fix life and find happiness even knowing the strugle of a physical dysabilty that runs you down should be admired. I got more dignity in my little finger than some old bald guy. HeyHey, it does feel good to vent. Therefore, I'm sure I did not say people are ALWAYS anything. My statement was: << Might not they actually be admiring you? >> You must have read it as they are always admiring you. That is a different thought. Not mine. I choose words carefully, but I do hope that your venting helped. I'm always happy to help someone. ;-) By the way. I suppose I'm one of the old people you mention. I have pure white hair. When I was young anyone with a serious disability was locked away (in the parents' home, or an institution) . We virtually never saw them. We didn't know people with serious disabilities existed. They were considered to be family secrets. People my parents age and older were brought up to believe it was shameful to have a genetic or serious disability. Beliefs of that sort are still around in some parts of the country, but not up here. We are used to having people in wheelchairs get on our buses and we think nothing of it. Service dogs are wonderful. I would think yours would attract a lot of friendly interest. Dogs are great icebreakers. I'm sorry you have to deal with insensitive people. Do I remember correctly that you have Friedreich's ataxia? http://www.fortnet.org/fapg/faq.htm Regards, Kat

I wasn't correcting you, just had a rude memory of an old person looking down on me. It happens a lot here in Orlando. And you are so right about disabilities staying a secret. Somewhere in my family was a member(s) just like me, actually at least one on each side, those member just cannot be found.
