Hi everyone,

Sorry about my delay in responding, but getting married this Saturday and no

time to read all of the CMT mail. Gretchen, I had a vertebrae fusion a long,

long time ago. It seems one of my (lower) vertebrae did not connect together

when I was born. Looked lite 2 separate vertebras. The doctor took a piece of

bone from my hip and fused them together. I've never had back pain since. The

surgery pain came from hip area, not where they fused. I was never sorry I

had it done. I know they have improved many things, since I had

mine.......the only thing I look at differently now is selective surgery vs.

life threatening surgery. Before I knew I had CMT, I'd already had back

surgery, three children (one of which was a C-section) a couple of D & C's.

Upon finding out about the CMT, Mayo Clinic told me to only have life

threatening surgeries. I do believe that these surgeries sped up my progress

and symptoms of CMT. Since then I had to have a cancer surgery. Not only can

anesthetic disrupt any remission, but you can't know when or if you will get

back to the same level of CMT before the surgery. Good luck

from Indy
