Kathy,

Hi, there.....it's 3am and I am up for the second time, so I thought I would

take this opportunity to answer your letter. I'm so sorry about the fatigue

that you are having. I have that myself and it is horrendous to deal with.

I have RLS, Fibromyalgia and arthritis.......also 3 bad disks in my spine

with arthritis in them and scar tissue from a previous surgery.

This kind of life is not fun. No bones about it. You need to concentrate

very strongly on your emotional state and do all that you can to reduce

stress. I plan to join a Holistic Health Center here in town that is new,

and learn how to meditate. For some, Yoga is helpful.

I don't agree with all of the methods being used at this center, but I can

pick and choose the ones I want, and fortunately, my insurance will pay for

it. I plan to have some massage and possibly some chiropractic. I have

never been a big fan of this, but if I am convinced they will do no harm if I

should happen to have another bone fragment, then I might give it a try.

Hopefully, they will do an xray first.

I am concerned about nerve damage, but I may also try acupuncture again. I

have permanent pain and damage from a needle that was inserted in my right

knee, so I am a bit leery of this.

I will be very disappointed if either of these practitioners wants to do

anything that is too controversial or that I do not understand. Actually, I

will not allow this. I value my health too much to take it lightly.

There are exercise classes and cardiovascular assistance, plus courses in

nutrition that is very healthy. I don't feel I need this one, but I find it

interesting and can always learn something more.

I have already tested the magnet thing so I am not interested in that. I

also doubt that I will buy my vitamins and supplements from them, and I'm

disappointed that they are selling them. There is always the possibility of

" prescribing " a bit too much when the doctor is selling the medicine. I

will not have anything to do with Homeopathy.

I like the fact that they want a complete physical and medical history, and

will work hand in hand with your allopathic physician. As everyone knows, I

have a great respect for most of the people in our traditional medical and

scientific community, and I look upon prescription medications and

supplements as being fraught with pretty much the same evils. I don't think

a day in my life passes that I do not hear or read of a new warning regarding

a supplement. If these things are strong enough to help us at all, then they

are strong enough to hurt us. The only answer that I can see to this is

regulation and control of these products, first of all, to be certain you are

getting what is on the label...and then, more controlled research into their

effectiveness and side effects.

Are you doing anything to help your liver or are they just watching it? This

is very frightening, indeed, and I would certainly keep my eye on this.

There is always the possibility that a second opinion would benefit you.

I certainly wish you all the luck in the world and hope you will keep in

touch and let us know how you are doing. I hope you are resting well....

Connie, 63, MD
