Guest guest
Larry, My experience is this: both celebrex and vioxx are for joint pain,(they work on different pain receptors and they are in the same class) ultram is used for muscle pain (especially lower back where it works real well, it is working to stop pain in my back so I can get back to the bike and garden after PT - ultram is in a different class). Elavil and Neurontin are for nerve pain.Elavil is in an antidepressant class but works great on nerve pain. Neurontin is in an antiepileptic and helps some people with nerve pain. My pain is primarily the low back one now. I tried Celebrex and Vioxx, but did nothing, as I do not have joint pain. Guess the trick is is to discern what type of pain one has. Guest guest
Hi, all. I think it's also important to mention that celebrex and vioxx are NSAIDs - anti-inflammatory meds. Some of us who have CMT and also arthritis or osteoarthritis often have sever inflammation of the joints, therefore lots of pain. BUT NSAIDs have some nasty side effects, in particular stomach problems, even ulcers. For me they also cause a worsening in the leg swelling, which in turn makes the pain worse. I have used Celebrex, also a number of others. They all work the same way for me, such that the side effects end up being worse than the pain. I would just caution everyone to read up on the side effects of all the anti-inflammatories and just be aware. Also, it's my understanding that ultram, while not narcotic, can be habit forming. Don't know how that works, but worth thinking about, IMO.
