Hi Dawn:

I have one flat foot that rotates to the left, and one high arch foot that

wants to rotate to the left (that action may be coming from my hips also).

So yes, barefoot they look like they are both pointed left. I don't want to

scare you, but I think it's part of the weakening and deformity process. I

was diagnosed when I was 6. Your daughter would probably benefit from some

sort of bracing and/or exercises. Has she seen her dr.?

Dawn, from what you describe about Bethany's feet, sounds like mine at

about age 10, when a Dr. diagnosed my CMT and recommended tendon surgery

(soft tissue surgery) Have you got a MDA clinic nearby you could take

her to? http://www.mdausa.org to find one near you, or a neurologist in

private practice? I don't know if you mean the shakiness is tremors or

not. There are medications for tremors, but I don't know if they are

given to a child. A good neurologist will help Bethany. As a kid I

spilled and dropped things all the time. Not much anymore.

Hello the House,

Hi Dawn: I just had an ankle fusion for the same problem your describing

that your daughter has, the turning of the foot inward. Mine also turned

over so I was walking on my ankle. In my humble opinion I think your

daughter is too young for an operation. Wearing AFO or some type of brace

over a length of time would hopefully straighten the foot out. See if you

can find a good orthopedic surgeon, preferably one who just does feet and

knows about CMT. If your in the Boston, Ma area let me know and I will give

you the name of one of the best around

Good Luck

E
