Guest guest
Hi all, a here (mother of now 14 yo with CMT) She had a birthday! I was out ot town for 5 days and came back to 568 E-Mails, mostly from CMT, Whew! For those of you who are new, I do not have CMT but my beautiful 14 yo daughter does. I have been a Labor and Delivery RN for 20 years and I can tell you without a doubt, every woman reacts differently to a pregnancy. Pinched nerves, shooting nerve pains, off balance, tripping, stumbling are all part of many perfectly normal pregnancies. Some woman fly through without anything, others get it all. Your center of gravity is off with a " normal " pregnancy and with CMT(where the balance is compromised anyway) I imagine it would be worse. Some woman have wonderful, fast deliveries while others go through " you know what! " regardless of having medical compromises or not. My point is that, you cannot judge how your CMT pregnancy will be, based on others. A pregnancy is a very self-sacrificing act and the female body takes a beating through it all. The reward far outweighs the inconvience. But how does one know there child will have CMT or not? I don't think there is any definitive in-utero testing for that yet. You must make the most educated decision with the help of your spouse. No one, is ever guaranteed a perfect child; there are too many genetic factors at work. Friends of ours gave birth to a girl who has Cystic Fibrosis. They found out only after giving birth that they were both carriers of the gene. Go figure! They live with the fact that their daughter will NOT outlive them. I would not change one thing or course of action regarding the birth of my daughter. She was meant to be here and we love her unconditionally. We did not have any more children though. She has to take this all into consideration and decide if she will have children. At this point, she does not want to take the chance. But God bless your decision making and I hope you are able to come to the best decision for you, your husband and future children. a 's mother
