Guest guest
Does anyone have any experience with the side effects of Sinemet. My wife has been taking this med for a year in combination with neurontin and its been doing its job. She is currently in her 8th stay in a hospital (1 of 4) being treated for vomiting. She started April 14 after taking the above night meds. No other differences before that. She has had many, many gastro intestinal tests run from her mouth to her rectum. They have all been negative. No blockages, no ulcers, no tumors. Motility tests show the digestive system working normal. They now have moved to this being a mental event. And its possible without going into details that this is the triggering mechanism that is causing the vomiting. But in all this time they have not taken her off the sinemet until I prodded them at Mayo Hospital in Phoenix to do so, just on the pretense that it could be a contributor since one of the side effects of sinemet is vomiting. This was discontinued May 28. Vomiting seems to have stopped (although she is also getting psychiatric help at this same time). They are continuing the neurontin and have increase the dose to offset the discontinuance of sinemet. Help from anyone with knowledge of sinemet, its side effects, long term, particularly vomiting is urgently needed. Thank you, Chuck (list member is my wife Donna)
Guest guest
Beth: I suspect that the low Sinemet dose is just the beginning. Most people take much more than that. The general rule is one hour before or two hours after eating. I should think you could try one first thing in the morning and another in the middle of the afternoon. There is one caveat to this. Sometimes Sinemet can upset a person's stomach. In that case, the rules change, and you take them with food. So, you see, the dosing is pretty personal. I do hope your husband responds well to Sinemet and the dose can be increased. Ken took if for the whole twenty years he was diagnosed, and he never had a negative reaction to it, and it continued to work for him. He took 25/100CR five times a day, beginning first thing in the morning and ending with a 50/200 at bedtime. Barbara
Guest guest
Beth, I'm surprised that the doctor did not tell you, but I would suggest immediately on rising and about 8 hours later (but wait to eat at least a hour after taking the pill). It is also best to wait as long as possible after eating to take the pill, so if you normally eat at say 6 PM you might want to wait until about 4:30 or 5:00 PM to take the second one. Although with the CR, that is not as important. Take care, Bill Werre ==================================== Beth Wetzel wrote: > Hi, > > My husband was just prescribed Sinemet CR 25-100, 1 tablet twice a day. Guest guest
My husband takes twice that dosage 4X a day, so I probably am not a good person to give you advice. Our doctor did tell us to be consistent. Give the medicationat the same time each day. One hour before a meal or two hours after a meal. Good luck. Guest guest
Thanks to all of you for your response to my question about Sinemet. I will take all of your responses home to my husband so we can decide when the best times will be to administer this new med. It's also helpful to know that he's taking a very low dose and we can possibly increase it to help him even more. Thanks again! Beth

Guest guest
Beth, I'm a little late in reading your post and the others, but I'll add one more thing -- sinamet can lower the blood pressure. So if your husband has problems with orthostatic hypotension, be sure you are extra-careful when he starts the sinamet that he doesn't stand up quickly and be more aware of situations where his blood pressure might drop.
