Marti here.

Benadryl is a good one. I worked with many psychiatrists that recommend

Benadryl as a first option before sleeping pills. If other things don't

work, sleeping pills can be helpful but can also be dangerous and often have

a rebound affect alterring the sleep cylcle for months. Benadryl, avoiding

non-sleep/intimate activities in bed, may help. If none of these things

help, you may want to evaluate to see if depression or anxiety are causing

the sleep problems; there are many helpful treatments for depression and

anxiety.

Good luck, I know it can be frustrating.

Calicum calms nerves. Try calicum/magnesium or Tums or a little milk and

crackers.

Hello Chen, My name is Martha. I was having the same problem. Not sleeping.

there was no reason for it. My doctor told me to take an antihistimine. It is

alot safer than a sleeping pill. Buy one that caused drowsiness. I works for me.

Chen, Lamar Here,

You could possibly need a sleep study. Do you kick a lot in your sleep (wake up

with the sheet no longer over you)? Many CMT'ers have Restless Leg

Syndrome(RLS), or Periodic Leg Movements in Sleep (PLMS); which can cause these

symptoms. This often wakes the person and they do not realize what did. Does

anyone sleeping with or near you complain about you snoring, or gasping for

breath in your sleep? Sleep apnea, is another common cause.

Someone recommended an antihistamine which works for some, but many with CMT

and/or RLS/PLMS experience adverse or reverse effects from them.

I would recommend talking to your physician about the problem and considering a

sleep study, especially if either of the things I mentioned are present.

The best natural remedy I have used for sleeplessness was to dab some pure

lavender oil on my pillow at night. It really did help me to get to sleep

during times of work-related stress.

Wishing you many zzzzzzzz's!

HI Regina,

I usually only sleep 5-6 hours a night since surgery....and I can never take

a nap during the day now or I can't sleep at night. It has something to do

with blood sugar.

No back problems, though, I'm sorry you have those.

Hi Regina,

When you sleep on your stomach are you also sleeping with your head on a pillow?

If you do you may be putting extra strain on your back because you are bending

your neck up. I sleep much better without one when I sleep on my back or tummy.

Also if your chest is large, when you lay on your tummy you may be putting a

strain on your back.

You might talk to an exercise physiologist or a chiropractor about excercises

that you can do to strengthen your lower back. Yoga might help also. Your back

shouldn't hurt if the spine is in proper alingment when you sleep.

When we loose weight the muscles we used to use to support our selves may not be

the same ones used anymore. You may be using different sets of muscles that

haven't adapted or have the strenght to support you to sleep on your belly.

I have periodic muscle pains/soreness as my body readjusts to not carrying the

same amount of weight it used to carry.

Hope that helps,
