This is for those of you who suffer from RLS and a chemical imbalance.

I have severe RLS now under control with MIRAPEX, Codeine, Trazodone, and

Acetocoline. I do not have a chemical imbalance.

My daughter who has Major Depression has finally been dx with a severe case

of RLS.

She is on Trilafon and Effexor. I saw my neurologist yesterday, (Tuesday).

He told me that Trilafon can exacerbate RLS. Clozaril is the best but as

some of you may know, one needs a weekly blood test and if one's white blood

count drops, Clozaril must stop immediately. I asked him about Risperdol and

Zyprexa, he prefers Zyprexa as Risperdol can exacerbate RLS but not as much

as Trilafon.

On Monday I attended a seminar about dementia in the elderly. The

psychiatrist who gave the lecture, is extremely well regarded by others in

this field. He prefers to give Risperdol for elderly clients who need this

kind of medication, as it decreases the possibility of the elderly losing

even more cognition when dementia is a problem. I have consulted with him

about cases in the past and called him last night. He is very familiar with

RLS and assured me that Zyprexa is perfectly appropriate when one is not

elderly.

The only drawback with Zprexa is that it can cause a weight gain.

One other piece of information I learned from my neurologist (Bruce

Erhenberg), yesterday, is that Neurotin is now believed to help less with RLS

symptoms and more with the sleep aspect of the disorder.

All of the above is " for your information only, " and not to be looked at as

advice.
