Hi Joyce, Neurontin seems to work best on the electrical type of nerve

pain. It completely stopped mine. These were 'shocks/jolts pulsating

through my entire body when I was at rest. I don't know about burning or

frostbitten feelings as I don't have them. Neurontin also has given me

renewed energy plus other good things. I am still tired at night, but

then so is the rest of the world who put in a full day. One way to

'test' to see if the Neurontin is 'working' or not is to stop taking it,

but one needs to slowly decrease the dosage over a period of time and be

supervised by doctor. There havn't been any research or studies on CMT

and Neurontin. So those of it taking it 'off label' are 'test cases'

ourselves. You might want to read some of the 1997, 1998 + 1999 Medline

abstracts listed under our 'links' here at CMTUS. These might give you

more insight into how Neurontin works in general and in other illnesses.

I don't know how long you have been taking it, but 1/3 of the people (in

general) are 'instant responders' - they feel the good effects within a

few days. Another 1/3 of the people require several months - 4-6 to feel

the effects, and another 1/3 do not receive any benefits from it. It's

not a perfect medication, but it does help many with a variety of

illnesses.

My hubby takes Neurontin for his feet. He has diabetic neuropathy, His feet

tingle. He has been taking it for about a month. It has really helped. Before

the Dr. diagnosed it. He couldn't wear shoes. He said it feels like sand in his

feet. He got some really funny stares from people in the stores. Even the

employees.
