Guest guest
Hi Everyone, The exercise topic is a couple of days old, but I have been busy and not had the chance to respond. I too have, in the past, found that cardio exercises irritate my RLS. A couple of years ago it was the worst, as I was training almost everyday for a number of triathlons and biathlons I did that summer. What bothered me the most was the running. On days that I did soley swimming, or bicycling I did not notice as much of a bother. Interesting. Within the last year I have altered my exercises quite a bit to include mostly weight-bearing and resistance exercises. Not huge weights, just hand-held and ankle weights. I follow a video series four mornings a week. On the other days I ride my bicycle indoors on my trainer, swim, walk, or crash on the couch. Anyway, I have noticed that these weight-bearing and resistance exercises which I have been doing regularly do not seem to irritate my RLS at all. And I have also trimmed down my waist a couple of pant sizes, have more energy, and feel great. From what I have read, the newer research is really showing the benefits of weight-bearing and resistance exercise for weight management, building muscle, joint health, etc., etc., as opposed to years ago where cardio exercises were the big push. So for those who find cardio exercises bothering their RLS, look into weight-bearing and resistance exercises as part of you health regimen. Hope this is helpful.
