I imagine his Boy Scout experience is directly related to his troop and how

it is led. If he is in a troop that is accepting of all levels of ability

and finds activities that allow everyone to perform well, then he should be

having a great time. If his troop is very focused on activities based on

physical achievement, then he may end up very frustrated.

How well do you know the troop leader? Can you talk to him/her about

activities that your boys can excel at? There is much more to scouting than

sports and hiking. Maybe you can offer to lead some badge activity that

your boys are interested in - hold a badge workshop for these activities. I

have done this for my daughters'

girl scout troop and it has worked out really well. It is my way of

contributing to the troop.

If your troop remains way too focused on physical activities, then talk to

the Council about other troops in your area that might be more suited for

your son. And you are right to advise your kids that sometimes our

experiences are fun, and sometimes they are frustrating.

Hang in there Mom!

Hi Ruth this is the 3rd BS troop I have tried. The second for Adam. The first

one seemed better then this. They focused on learning and sitting still . Not

to great for a kid with short term memory loss and ADHD. I will talk to his

leader again. See what can be done. This poor kid. On the bright side he

loves to swim and its almost swimming season. Anyone want to see his picture

from being student of the month?
