Guest guest
Hello, Glenn......... This is certainly an interesting situation you have. I believe we all have some kind problem with our memory......or think we have.........and we don't really know whether it is because of all the sleep we have missed, or the medications we are taking. As long as it does not complicate your life seriously, I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it. I truly believe in the premise that you have to " use it or lose it " ......that it is very important to try to keep learning new things as we get older....to keep our minds active.....to use our memories. I don't use the memory settings onmy telephone, so I have to remember at least some telephone numbers. When I balance my bank account, I do it in my head and not on a calculator.......unless I run into a problem that has to be checked. These are just little things, but I believe that all the little things add up in our daily life. From what I've heard it's quite normal after 50 to run into some memory loss. You write notes and make lists and use reminders......but I have also read that you can still grow neurons in your brain if you keep on learning new stuff......( I think I have the right ) ....... I find that just learning to use the computer and all that it involves has helped me already. I feel like I remember things a lot better. And of course, I throw this up to my husband all the time in an effort to get him to learn more about it.............not much luck so far. For a while there, I had made a tape of all my personal telephone numbers and I would listen to it driving to work and then try to remember them. I think this sort of thing works if you really persevere. I was particularly challenged since my wayward daughter has moved 15 times...........and that was 15 addresses and telephone numbers that I had to remember..........and my son has probably had about 10 also. I do agree that it's easier to keep your sense of humor, though, and laugh about it .......and keep on making your notes and lists................. I believe you will know if you ever run into a serious memory problem, like forgetting where the refrigerator is or how to operate the microwave. Remember what they say..... " Don't sweat the small stuff.........and it's all small stuff..... " Good luck........let me know if your memory improves........if you can remember to..........:-) Connie
