Guest guest
Well, I'm back again. This time I stayed in the American Inn, about a mile from NIH. The hospital has a shuttle running back and forth to the hotels. Shuttles, shuttles, everywhere shuttles. I felt very safe and comfy, and it was a very clean hotel. I enjoyed my stay there. Sorry I didn't get a chance to call anyone, It wasn't quite the same as when I was an in-patient. Not that I couldn't do what I wanted to, but I was paged to the MRI area just about the time I was going to use the teleplhone. I was on call, so I had to be ready whenever they had an opening, and because someone didn't show up for their appointmentI I got in earlier than scheduled. The MRI went well without any problems. Fortunately my RLS didn't act up while I had to be still for about 30 minutes or so. After that was over I went up to the Fifth floor where Dr. Bara and Dr. Aksu had left word for me to come. For the second time (remember I told you 2 weeks ago) I was taken into Dr. Halletts' office to answer the questions again. He was just as pleasant as ever. Then on to Dr. Baras' office where he and Dr. Aksu asked me some of the same questions, plus more. Dr. Bara may want me to come back next Wednesday for a program on RLS with more doctors. First, he is going to try to get a local RLS patient, but may need me as a backup, I'm to call him on Monday to find out. If I do, it will be for that day only. I could finally be given a prescription, which he decided on Permax, 1 a day, 50 MCG to be taken at 9:00 PM. I took the first one last night in the hotel, but didn't sleep. I can remember looking at the clock throughout the night, and seeing each hour at least one or two times. I don't know if the Permax kept me from sleeping or not, but I'm going to give it a chance and think positive at least until this prescription is gone. I also had a headache through the night, and I hardly ever get headaches. I'm just hoping it's a coinsidence. Now let me tell you about the dumbest thing I did last night in Bethesda You're going to laugh at me. So can I now, but I wasn't laughing then. Dr Bara suggested if I had spare time, I should take the Metro into Washington and see the sights. I told him I was afraid I'd get lost in the big city. He said there was no way I could get lost if I took the RED line, He drew me a map and told me what all I would see. The White House, Museums, The Big Christmas Tree, etc. He even wrote down his phone # in case I got lost, but was sure I wouldn't. Well, Ole Gutsy June here, I'm a big girl, so I decided to do it. Now keep in mind when he told me that, it was 12:30 or 1:00 in the afternoon. I didn't get back to the hotel until 4:30PM. The hotel clerk told me to go straight down the street 10 blocks and I would run into the Metro station. That sounded easy enough, so I started out, walked the 10 blocks and sure enough there it was. I'd never seen such a big deep concrete tunnel with 3 huge esculators leading down into this deep hole in the ground. I had to ask a lady to show me how to buy a ticket, and I kinda stuck near her. She made sure I got on the RED line. I told her what I was doing, and she told me all the museums and everything was closed, and in order to see the Christmas tree, I'd have to transfer to the BLUE/GOLD line. Well, NO WAY was I going to do that, I decided I was going to go back where I came from so I wouldn't get lost. Had to get another lady to show me how to go back. Anyway I felt better coming out of the Metro Station, Whew!! I thought. It was dark, but that didn't bother me because I knew I only had those 10 blocks to walk to get back to the hotel. When I was 5 or 6 blocks down I didn't recognize anything. I kept on walking 9, 10 blocks, still didn't recognize anything, and the hotel was only 10 blocks down. After 11 blocks I knew I had taken the wrong road, so I turned around and started back, looking all around me to see if anyone was following me. This can't be, I went in a straight line on one street, but this wasn't the same street. I didn't panic but I was worried, I didn't even know what the name of the street the hotel was on. I stopped at a little store, and he didn't know anything about the American Inn hotel, so I asked where the Metro Station was and he told me I was 3 blocks away from it. My feet and legs were wearing out. When I got back to the Metro Station, I noticed there were 4 main streets jotting out from it. Not knowing what street the hotel was on, I did some serious praying. This was my Fox Hole. It then dawned on me to ask someone what street the NIH was on. " Wisconsin Street " . So I headed down Wisconsin, and started recognizing stores and things. Did I ever THANK GOD, you'd better believe I did. I still had 10 more blocks to walk without getting mugged. When I finally reached the hotel, I had walked a total of 42 blocks, not counting the walking inside the Metro. Tonight my legs and feet are sooooo sore. I learned a lesson for sure, and I won't ever venture out on my own again without at least knowing what street I'm on, and a phone mumber to call. You're wondering why I didn't call Dr. Bara? Well, believe it or not I forgot to take his map and phone number with me. I told you I did a dumb thing. The next time I see Dr. Bara, I'm going to tell him to remind me not to listen to him again. haha!! Well, for those of you who stuck with this letter to the end, I'll give you a break now and close.
