Your doctors need to complete THEIR part of the paperwork and submit

your medical files. This also takes a 'release form' which SSDI will

send to you to sign and return. SS will get your medical records from

your doctor. As part of the review process, SS will send you to one of

THEIR doctors, for some tests and believe it or not psychological

evaluation. Every 3 or 4 years, once you are receiving SSDI, you will be

subject to a CDR (Continuing Disability Review) which is more paperwork

and more information on how your disease is progressing and keeping you

from working. There is a big movement now called Ticket to Work, with a

greater emphasis on putting the disabled into jobs they can do. Benefits

would be adjusted according to earnings under that proposal.

Gretchin, Lamar here,

You are basically correct, but complete, thorough and descriptive applications

often go directly through. They did send me to a physician, who was also my

family doctor and had already had filled out proper papers. They wanted a back

X-Ray, he ordered it and never even checked me. No psychological evaluation was

done or requested. In fact I have never heard of one being required unless the

claim is for a psychiatric disability. Perhaps this to differs by state or

area. In Georgia the disability adjudication is done by Vocational Rehab, a

division of the State Dept. of Human Resources, and not by Social Security. In

a way they are sub-contractors.
