Guest guest
I too have painful knees but I haven't connected it with my RLS. Instead, a Mayo Health newsletter calls it Polymyalgia Rheumatica. There's no cure for it but they say it goes away in a year or two on its own. They don't know what causes it. It's an inflammatory disorder. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin and ibuprofen may be advised in mild cases of PMR. For more severe symptoms they usually treat with prednisone which doesn't cure it but does reduce the inflammation. It's given in low doses from 7.5 to 20 milligrams a day. Personally I'll stick with the ibuprofen. I want nothing to do with Prednisone which is a steroid and shouldn't be taken for any length of time. Anyway that's my story on painful knees. I agree that losing weight will help. I'm trying too. There are periods of maybe a day where I suddenly realize that the knee pain is absent and I can get up from a chair and navigate the stairs without discomfort but it doesn't last for more than a day at a time. I am experimenting with something to help me sleep better. I've told how hard it is for me to go back to sleep when I wake up at night and how, because of that, the RLS returns making sleep even more remote. Well for the last week I've been taking a Kava-Kava tab at supper and another one with my bedtime Permax. Voila!! so far my sleep has improved. I still get up but for this past week I've slept say from 11PM to 4PM, wake up for a trip to the loo, then back to bed and SLEEP with no laying awake or RLS, yes peaceful sleep sometimes till 7AM!! I'll let you all know if this is a fluke as time goes on. CHEERS! Jeanne and Mr. Biggles in Poultney VT! Mr. Biggles got hold of a small bottle of glue while my back was turned this morning and I found it chewed besides a puddle of the stuff on the couch. He's none the worse for wear but how I'm gonna get that spot off the cushion cover I don't know. He has all the innocence and sense of mischief of a human toddler! But since I didn't catch him in the deed there was no sense in discipline as by that time he'd gone off searching of other fields to conquer. Oi Vay!!!!! I always have RLS, but when I aggravate the two " discs " in my neck, everything is worse. I am fishing 2 or 3 times a week while a retired winter Texan, and my shoulder and arm hurt, but all of my RLS is worse (aggravated). Guest guest
Interesting! The RLS is worse in my right leg, too - 2 arthroscopic surgeries ('84), very little menisci left, and an ACL tear that has reared it's ugly head once again. Hmmmm.... Guest guest
Yes, Rhonda, my knees have dislocated, although after the last one in 1979 or so, haven't had any problems with them since. Didn't have surgery or anything. Gretchen

What did the chiro do for your knees? Do you still get chiro treatments for them now? This knee has always been weak and even dislocated after the surgery, so I wasn't pleased pleased with the results. For my problem it wass best to strengthen the quadriceps and the muscles that hold the kneecap in place. Knees are so fragile aren't they. >> The chrio noticed that one of my hips was higher then the other. He adjusted my (I can't spell this so I will sound it out) sac or rea ly ac. My knee will still bother me from time to time so I go in and see a woman chrio in the same office. She is a little gentler. I needed the strong man chrio at first but now it is just maintence. Now that I know it is fixable I don't let it get a bad as it was the first time. Because my hip was higher I was putting more pressure on my knee and bending it to far back. I still bend back to much but that is normal with the CMT.
