Guest guest
Hi Barbara, Rose Marie, and all, I have often thought the same thing Barbara. Out here in Calif. there are more and more houses being built - especially 2 story ones. My childhood home was 2 story and lots of fun, sliding down the bannister, bumping down the stairs, or not so much fun, falling down/or up the stairs. Also just ran up and down the stairs more to get things or bring things down. 2 story houses can be made accessible, but after buying this one story of mine now, I must say it is really convenient to have everything on one level. I still go from room to room to get things, and even tho I don't have problems with stairs, the 'flatness' does give me less to trip/fall over (other than the invisible furniture!) I have had this new place for only a year and a half, and have had 3 people knock on my door asking if I would sell - saying they want a one story house in my neighborhood! (it is a good place for kids/families). I do have wide hallways and why that is I don't know. I have seen a few neighbors houses and they don't have them. Also I have a very 'open' floor plan which is very versatile. Perhaps the builders who build the new homes aren't thinking too far ahead, but are more concerned with getting them built then sold. I know older people than myself who live at places like Sun City where there are one story dwellings and are very nice, spacious and wider hallways. There's my $2.00 worth!
