Guest guest
<< What is a heel orthosis? How do the A.F.O's work? How does heel fusion help? How does a Toe-Off brace work? Also, I've heard that the Toe-Off brace can be purchased over the counter, is this true? Where would I find that kind of store? has trouble with balance, Legs going numb, Feet hooking and curling inward-he walks on the outside of his feet. Weak ankles too. Since everyones condition is different, I just wanted to give you guys an idea of what we needed help with. >> ======= Hi Kathy, First, find out where your MDA clinic is. They will help with your questions and they know of CMT. They also help with the purchase of AFOs, or surgery, or whatever is needed. Or Shriners. (I don't know where you are located.) I have no idea what heel orthoses are, but I doubt they would help . AFOs help with foot drop and balance, and really good ones help keep the foot aligned. They help with walking and mobility. sounds as if he needs more than what ToeOffs are designed to handle. They don't help a badly deformed foot. Even if they are over the counter or off the shelf they need a prescription I'm quite sure. Some web sites for AFOs. I recommend that you read about bracing first, in the first site. OR, if you can't use the internet I can send you copies of some of the things, but not the photos of anything. http://www.mdausa.org/publications/Quest/q62bracing.html Article re: AFOs http://virtualgait.com/ Click on Walk Better, then on Orthotics to see the photos It also tells about bracing http://www.medassistgp.com/medprods.html http://www.oos.com/ http://www.dAFO.com/ http://www.campscandinavia.se/dokument/campsol.htm ToeOff Hope this helps.
