As an alternative, trying swinging the offending limb up onto something that's just above waste high - maybe a window ledge (yes - MOVE THE ORNAMENTS FIRST). Then, fold at the waste and get your chest down onto the knee - keeping the leg straight. If children or sensitive animals are around, swear _under_ your breath.... Seriously, being able to bear down with your torso is wonderfully helpful in stretching the muscles all down the thigh. And it's easier to stay there while the muscle 'pulls out' than it is to keep your leg over your head. (It's easier to watch TV from that position too!) Pull on your toes to help the calf muscles. Then rotate your leg 'inwards' (i.e. your foot swings in the direction of the big toe) through 45-90 degrees, swing your body around on the foot you're still standing on (I hope...) and you can selectively stretch the muscles on the inside of the thigh. Hope that helps. I refuse all liabilities for anyone who injures themselves trying . . . . CB in rainy UK. Cumberland had 3 inches in a day yesterday. OK New Orleans had a 7 inches in 3 hours storm once while I was there, but 3 inches is a lot for us.
