Guest guest
Hi -- it sounds like you've been through the works on your feet, but hopefully it will change your walk and help out with the alignment of the rest of your legs and back. I had surgery on my right foot -- toes 2-4 fused with tendons transferred from bottom of toe to top, bone from little toe removed to allow it to lay flat, tibial anterior tendon split and part transferred to the outside of the ankle to reduce walking on the outside of the foot, bundling of three tendons on the top of the foot to make them stronger and finally, a wedge of bone taken out of the first metatarsal and fusion to the next bone toward the ankle to reduce the arch. It's been three months and is doing nicely. So, I have had physical therapy from about six weeks onward and what a difference it has made. He works to reduce the scar tissue from building up and puts me through a good range of motion routine. We will start " weight training " with the foot in another couple of months. Ask your doctor to prescribe the therapy, I can't believe it wasn't part of your initial treatment. It makes all the difference. nne Re: Rose-Marie -- PS > > > From: KathleenLS@... > > > In a message dated 1/17/00 11:31:33 AM, Rose-Marie.Isakson@... > writes: > > << I must say I especially understand the tired mothers who calls for help, > my daily thoughts are often about: how shall I been able to tidy, cook, do > the wasing ups etc this evening when I´m already feeling so exhausted (hope > you don´t throw me out from this site now while sounding so negative). >> > > We all have those days and it helps to talk about it. Guest guest
Hi -- yes, we did have different things, but the use of physical therapy really makes a difference no matter what the surgery. I am just now starting to weight bear without crutches for short distances. But must use the crutches for longer walks. After the surgery, I was put in a " soft " boot cast (lots of metal bars and velcro straps, but it can be removed to " wash " your foot and to " scratch " an itch. I've had the hard casts in the past and they are so miserable. Also, the doctor was very concerned that I not lose any more muscle in my calf and upper leg, and with the soft cast I could massage and work those muscles passively. The soft boot has an orthotic arch support and I will probably continue to wear the boot for a few more weeks. Then I will have to have my current orthotics redone to configure to my new foot shape. I did not wear braces before the surgery, and I'm hoping to begin working out to rebuild my leg muscles as much as possible, and won't need to get braces just yet. The worst part of the whole experience is being patient and letting the foot heal. I'm such an independent sort that I seem to always try to do too much. My therapist just gave me a " lecture " at my last treatment. However, the results appear to be excellent and I will have the other foot done as soon as this one is strong enough to function alone. I look forward to hearing more from you and your therapy. nne Re: Rose-Marie -- PS > > > > > > From: KathleenLS@... > > > > > > In a message dated 1/17/00 11:31:33 AM, > Rose-Marie.Isakson@... > > writes: > > > > << I must say I especially understand the tired mothers who calls for > help, > > my daily thoughts are often about: how shall I been able to tidy, cook, > do > > the wasing ups etc this evening when I´m already feeling so exhausted > (hope > > you don´t throw me out from this site now while sounding so negative). > >> > > > > We all have those days and it helps to talk about it.
