Guest guest
Hi everyone, Ruth warren here. Here's a question for you guys I haven't seen addressed before. My hands have weakened a lot over the last year and I'm losing a lot of strength in my grip. One place I am having trouble is when I cook. Actually, I am having 2 problems here. One is fear of losing my balance and falling into the oven when I bend over to pull something out of the oven. The other is hanging onto the dish once I pull it out! Last night I was cooking (a real good dinner for a change and not just pizza out of the freezer...) I had a large glass casserole in the oven and knew I wasn't having a good " grip " day, so I asked my husband to pull it out. I went ahead and pulled a much smaller glass dish out of the microwave thinking certainly I could handle that . Well, I almost made it to the table. The baked ziti in the small glass dish ended up splattered all over the floor. What a mess. (The worst part was trying to keep the dog out of it so he wouldn't accidently ingest glass shards as he tried to lick up the ziti!) My question is this. Does anyone know of any good cookware that can go in the oven but has handles that are easy to grip when you are ready to take it out? How do others with hand problems deal with cooking? I already don't use a sharp knife much anymore because my grip slips so easily. Don't want to add any fresh meat to a meal that isn't in the recipe. Would love to hear how others cope in the kitchen!
