alternatives and RLS

Hello, all.

New reader of rlssupport.

I've had mild symptoms since my teens, but last spring they escalated to

interfere with sleep. I've been trying non-pharmaceutical response

(except that I take a clomazopin once a week if I haven't been able to

sleep). In response to the message about alternatives, wanted to report

early success with a form of biofeedback that uses flashing lights

through an EEG program. After one treatment, the symptoms disappeared

completely. After seven, the result seemed to stick, so that I had no

symptoms for a week after the last treatment. Am now working with the

provider to get some research grant money. If there is anyone in the

Philadelphia area who wants to participate, let me know! I now have the

program on my computer at home and am giving myself a treatment every

morning for one month to see how long the relief will last.

One other note, had read in the support group mail about magnesium

helping with symptoms. I had the opposite reaction. My first stop at

getting help was to a homeopathist. I didn't know about any magnesium

RLS connection, but she asked because in her research, magnesium

exacerabated restless symptoms. It turned out I was getting a lot of

magnesium in the calcium I was taking and in the Melatonin I had tried

at night. SO I cut the mag out of both and reduced the RLS symptoms

from a 8.5 on a scale of 10 to about a 6, meaning I could get to sleep

and wasn't up for hours in the middle of the night, though still had

enough symptoms to disturb sleep.

Anyway, assume people will be interested in the eeg stuff, and will keep

you posted as our " research " progresses.
