How soft are they? I have had the same pr. for more than 10 yrs. They are unhinged hard plastic. I wear heavy knee sox for a cushion. In the summer, my feet sweat a lot & this causes skin irritation. Also, what are cross-trainers? I have had CMT since age 7/8, undiagnosed, have had numerous surgeries, and have fortunately been able to finish an educational career of over 40 yrs. I can empathize with every one who posts on your list and find it very educational and comforting. The one symptom I have been spared is the pain of the destruction of nerves. For me, it has been a painless, but relentless progression. " My " type cmt has been in the family for several generations, although undiagnosed, is, I believe, the X type. This means (to me) that if a female has symptoms, her children each has a 50% chance. If a male has symptoms, all his daughters will be afflicted, but none of his sons will be affected. My daughter, has had no children, but rather has adopted three wonderful children, that my wife & I love as dearly as any natural grandchildren. The oldest girl is now 15 and a wonderful personality, honor student that probably would have been entering the drug culture if she were in her natal environment. The second girl, a Korean, is an extremely bright, athletic type specializing in swimming, would have probably be living in a Korean orphanage where girls are second class citizens. Her father died and the mother could not afford to keep her. The third, an Asian Indian, probably of the lower cast system came from an orphanage where he wasn't cared for very well and probably have died by now. He is talented in mechanical things, and has a gifted intellect. So, you see, I have received a triple blessing by having CMT, although the accompanying problems have not been easy to accept.
