Hello ,

WOW, your life story sounds just like mine! I was born in 1969, had no

symptoms when I was little, except for gradually walking on my tippy

toes. By third gradel, I was diagnosed with scoloisis and was given a

brace, too. My brace had first, a plaster torso, then finally a

plastic one. Two bars up the back, and one up the front, attached at

the top by a collar around my neck. UGH! Bringing back bad memories...

I was teased terribly, and became a shy little blond girl with no self

esteem! I wore my brace until 1983, in 9th grade. My back was curved

at 52 degrees! I opted for the surgery, and got the Harrington Rod

also. Straightened my back to 13 degrees!

I had surgery on my right heel to keep it from rolling a few years

later. Through all this, I suffered alot of abuse from fellow students

AND teachers, but was too shy to do anything about it. Boys didn't like

me, girls didn't want to be seen with me. So, when I was 15, I got up

the courage, and entered the Miss Pennsylvania Teen pageant. I didn't

win that time, but I became hooked! I entered local pageants and state

pageants, and have 15 trophies and 5 crowns to my credit. I also

started part-time modeling, and did some catalogs -made a few bucks

doing that as well! (No 's Secret, but oh well!) :o)

You have a great outlook on this disease, and through the love and

support of our CMT family, we will survive! Maybe someday with God's

help, WE WILL CONQUER!

Bless you, , and all of my CMT friends. Keep fighting!

Love, Rhonda

Brockport, Pennsylvania
