Hi, Gretchen and all.

I too have fewer falls, now that I'm getting old (!), thank goodness.

But I don't move real fast (LOL) anymore and I'm sure that has a lot

to do with it. Within the last six months I also use a cane more and

I lean on it pretty good.

The last bad fall I had was in January, first day back at work after

holidays. When I least expected it (of course!) I was walking into my

office, tripped on the floor and fell into my desk with my head

taking all the weight of the fall! Within 15 seconds my co-workers

were there, before I could assess the damage myself!

Ended up with an " almost " concussion. My doc said it was the kind of

injury that the teen football players get every week - the problem,

however, is that I'm about 40 years older. Fortunately all I got from

the fall was two black eyes, and a whole lot of hurt pride. Also it

really scared me.

In times past I have fallen UP the stairs a few times - does that

sound familiar? Also remember so many times trying to participate in

sports as a kid and coming away with great embarrassment because I

couldn't succeed and/or because I took some spectacular fall. I

remember once trying to catch a softball and falling in a field

of " goat-head " stickers. I think that's a Texas breed of sticker that

leaves a barb in your skin. I remember picking those barbs out of my

hands and knees for days afterwards. UGH to that childhood memory.

I almost forgot - re Balance - my balance is really poor, such that I

often start going backwards. That can lead to falls, or at least

plops down into whatever chair, bench, bush, whatever, happens to be

behind me. Sometimes the floor. Anybody else have that?

Here's to staying on our feet, or at least off the floor, unless we

choose to be there! Cheers to all. Great question, Gretchen!

Carolyn
