Guest guest
Louise, I'm sorry I'm not a doctor, but I have dealt with back problems and Sciatic pain most of my life. I could be wrong but your pain that goes down your leg sounds like it might be Sciatica. The thigh pain could also be an irritation of this nerve. I have found that certain positions while sitting or lying down can bring this pain on. You might want to experiment with this. I know that herniated disks cause Sciatic pain, but it could be something else damaging the nerve. What you describe sounds horrible.......somewhat similar to my thigh " cramps " when I get them. I have to pack it with ice packs and freeze the pain away.....then move around and walk it out......also take something to help the pain. I'm sure carrying the heavy trays at work are putting a strain on your back. When you extend your arms to carry something, you increase the pressure on your disks to 16 times the weight of the object you are carrying. Not a good thing...... I don't know how you are carrying, but you might try holding the tray as close to your body as possible to decrease this pressure.....in fact, you should let it rest on your shoulder if you can. The longer you continue the activity that is making your Sciatic nerve hurt, the more you risk permanent damage to it. Are you feeling any pain in your back at all? I understand that once you reach Sciatic pain, what is in your back disappears. You have my sympathy.......wish I could offer more........
