We had noticed she had trouble going up stairs, but really didn't think too much of it. However, it became very obvious that something was wrong when we went on an uphill hike while on vacation last summer and she had a terrible time. Her pediatrician referred her to a wonderful physician (Virginia , M.D. in the Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine department at the University of Michigan Hospital) and an EMG confirmed her diagnosis. She is doing well with it. She wears braces to help with her foot drop most of the time. We have had some trouble finding sneakers that are comfortable with her braces. She does stretching exercises recommended by the physical therapist the specialist sent her to. She also rides her horse regularly. So we are hoping for the best. A.
