Guest guest
Hi a, Yes,cultured veggies are SCD legal! Dr Haas told Elaine to give sauerkraut for her daughter,Judy. So you can see that it has been a part of SCD for over 50 years. Unfortunately, few parents on this list use them. I write about it several times a year but everyone ignores it. Suaerkraut was used on our first children's list before we had a good goat yogurt starter. You should start with juiced cabbage. I wrote about it on this email: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/message/34574 Please do not use the BED starters, use the SCD legal ones that are used to make the yogurt: http://www.giprohealth.com/products.html or www.customprobiotic.com Good luck with the fermented veggies! Guest guest
Mimi, I want to make sure I understand- I should make cultured vegetables using the same starter I currently use for making almond yogurt (Cusom Probiotics), correct? And are they ok to eat while in stage 3 of SCD, or do we have to wait until stage 4? When I make my cultured vegetables, they don't contain much juice. Maybe I should add more water to the brine? Also, the post you referenced mentioned vegetable juice. Is that on stage 4 also, or can we use it on stage 3? Thanks, a H. > > Are cultured vegetables ok on SCD? Guest guest
Hi a, We have never checked this company. SCDers are fanatical about not using manufactured foods. http://www.pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#homemade I understand that your son will return to college and that you might need ready made items. If you try it it would be better to use it after a month or so... when you get good results. Please be aware that the wrong food can have a delayed reaction, you might not see the effects until a few months. We respect your right to use whatever food you want but please be very detailed in any negative reports concerning SCD. There have been some parents who have not done the diet correctly yet bashed SCD for not solving their child's problem. If parents use a food that is illegal, then they should not blame SCD;the parents should reveal that they used ingredients that were SCD illegal. I have read some of your posts on other lists and know that you are a very fair and helpful person;I understand your special situation. Respectfully, Mimi > Mimi, > There is a company called Rejuvenative Foods. They make delicious > cultured vegetables, I believe without starter. www.rejuvenative.com. > We had been alternating their raw sauerkraut with home made BED > cultured vegetables. Do you think the rejuvenative would be ok? > a H.
Guest guest
Hi a, You may use the same starter. Right now,it would be best to just use the fermented cabbage juice. The cabbage juice should be made in a juicer(no blender or Vitamix). Please dilute the juice after fermenting it. Wait a few weeks before using the other fermented veggies. Guest guest
Hi Mimi, Thanks for your responses. Again, I need to clarify-- First, I take some cabbage and juice it in my juicer. Then I probably should warm it to about 90 degrees, add the custom probiotic culture starter, and ferment for about 36 hours? Then let him drink some each day? a H. > Hi a, > > You may use the same starter. > > Right now,it would be best to just use the fermented cabbage juice. > The cabbage juice should be made in a juicer(no blender or Vitamix). > Please dilute the juice after fermenting it. > > Wait a few weeks before using the other fermented veggies. > > Mimi > > > > > Mimi, > > I want to make sure I understand- I should make cultured vegetables > > using the same starter I currently use for making almond yogurt > > (Cusom Probiotics), correct?
