Kombucha is not legal.

MANY PEOPLE THINK that if their digestive system is normal, they won't have any

gas

unless they eat a particular food, like beans. The fact is that normal people on

an average

diet expel nearly a quart of intestinal gas each day. Most of us aren't aware of

this. It's

when we become aware of the gas that it can become uncomfortable and

embarrassing.

Gas is formed when certain foods reach the large intestine without being

completely and

adequately digested. When they arrive, bacteria that reside there go to work to

digest

them and in the process produce gas. This is a normal process; in most cases,

intestinal

gas is not a sign of a disease. Today, when we're eating more high-fiber foods

and 'fruits

and vegetables--which can be sources of intestinal gas--the problem of

flatulence is

more common.

The major cause of occasional excess flatulence is gas-promoting foods.

Hi Marilyn,

It was nothing extreme, but I'm wondering if that means that I

overstressed my digestive system a bit.

If you can't digest it it can cause gas because the microbes will

digest it for you and their fermentation of the food produces gas as

a by product. So the answer to what causes gas is whatever you

aren't ready for.

To find out which foods they are you could back up to the intro diet

or basic diet where you had none to little gas and very gradually

readd foods back in one at a time to see how you are with them. You

can keep a food journal and record symptoms with the introduction of

food. You can record gas etc. on a scale of 1-10; 1 being almost

nothing and 10 being a lot. The food journal is really good

especially when just starting because you are just adding food back

in and you can get a very clear idea of what you are able to

tolerate and what you aren't.

Did you dilute the juices at least half with water?

Kombucha tea is not legal.

You mentioned drinking quite a bit of orange juice and grape juice.

Did you water it down 50/50 with water?

You also mentioned a " fairly ripe " banana. Bananas need to be fully

ripe to be eaten on SCD. To speed up the ripening process, place the

unripe bananas in a brown paper sack with a ripe apple.

Hi, when we started our son on SCD 100% we found that he was extremely

gassy, and not to be crude, it stinks. I mentioned it to his DAN and while

we were laughing at the same time she said that it would be worse before it

gets better and very normal. He has now been on the diet for 5 mos and it

has improved significantly, he still has gas and it still stinks, but its

nothing as bad as it was.

Good luck Lesley Mom to Cullen PDD-NOS scd 5 mos

gas?
