Good luck Tammy, I pray it all goes well for you. Be careful on your drive

there. Let us know as soon as you can how it went. I'll be keeping you in my

prayers.

Dear Tammy, I am so sorry that I didn't know that you were going to have the

pancreatectomy and islet cell transplant. I don't keep up with the group

like I used to since I also have chronic hepatitis B and I am in that support

group as well. That group has so many e-mails to read I never get caught up.

Who is doing the surgery? Are you diabetic now? What is your last name? I

would like to send you a card and call you while you are recovering. What is

the name of the hospital? Do you have the address and phone number? I will

keep you in my prayers the whole time you are having your surgery and

recovering. How old are you? I was 58 at the time of my surgery. I was

comforted when I was recovering from my surgery just knowing that so many

people from the support group were waiting for a report about me and thinking

about me often. Knowing that I had my pancreatitis friends gave me such

strength. Tammy just remember that we are with you, cheering for your quick

recovery. Many friends called me and sent me cards. The friends that I have

who also had the pancreatectomy and islet cell transplant called and one

friend who I had never met before but is a part of our group flew to visit me

in the hospital bringing my family and I Christmas gifts. She is a part of

our group also. Her name is Gail. She was so very kind to do that for me.

I was amazed that someone would care so much for someone that they didn't

even know personally would fly to visit me in the hospital bearing gifts.

Her act of kindness and her friendship has blessed me and my family. I have

met some very wonderful people by having chronic pancreatitis and the

pancreatectomy and islet cell transplant. I would rather meet these

wonderful people another way but I am happy I met them and we continue to

keep in touch with each other. There are so many wonderful, caring people in

this world. You take care and remember I am going to be with you in thought

and prayer every day. Love, Shirley

Dear Tammy,

I am counting on my prayers being answered. That everything works

perfect for you. I think that if the diabetes does come and no pain

from pancreatitis, you got the better deal. I think you can make it

fine. Diabetes is a bear but after you get it under control it is

just day by day life. I have had diabetes for 8 years thanks to

sandostatin, the experimental failure. With pancreatitis and diabetes

you have the worse possible. If you hurt it sends the diabetes out of

control. I think that is the major cause of brittle diabetes. When I

hurt the highs and lows are very hard to control. I do my best and

have switched from the old N & R to the new Lantus and Humalog. I

believe that after my body gets under control better. I got to check

out getting this little piece of pancreas out. You have a win win

situation. Not being diabetic now and the islet. May you win win

forever!!! Your husband will be able to handle anything after what

you have been through, trust me on that.

Tammy,

I will pray for you and your family that things will

go well and that you all have the strength to deal

with whatever happens. I know you are a strong woman

and have a lot of faith, that alone should get you

through this...but a few extra prayers could never

hurt.

Thank you for the note to Tammy and the reminder, Shirley, it surely helps to

be reminded of the way we ought to be acting not just sometimes, but everyday

to one another. I didn't realize that Gail had gone so much out of her way

and done so much while you were having your surgery/trannsplant. That's

pretty impressive for anyone, not to mention someone suffering with their own

illnesses. Way to go, Gail, thank you for the example. And thank you too

Shirley, also for the example that you set and the hope that you share with

each of us on such a regular basis.

If I weren't diabetic, I'd have been in line for the surgery a long time ago

- but, right now, I just wait with hope that the surgery will become more

inclusive or more breakthrough's might become more available for those of us

with diabetes, and that it happens before we get any worse... So I wait, and

read, and pray, and take great joy when I read about somebody like Tammy or

or Amy or or any of the others with courage and the oppo

rtunity to take advantage of this life-giving procedure, and I share just a

little bit of the joy and excitement that they must feel, and look forward to

my turn. I'm pretty certain that it will come in the not-too-distant future.

So thanks again, Shirley, and Tammy, all the success in the world to both you

and your father, I keep him in my prayers as well, for he too is one of the

" groundbreakers " for all his efforts in this difficult battle. Safe travels

to you and God bless.

Peace & Love,

Terry in KC

PS... I have a family member getting married in Vail, CO next week, so I'll

be taking on a ten-hour drive with my partner... And I'm really hoping that

it doesn't become a twenty-hour drive, if ya' know what I mean... So any good

vibes you can send this way are appreciated.

PPS... I had a rather large sum of money (to me, anyway) automatically

deposited into my checking account last week, so it looks like after only two

years and no court time, I've officially been " awarded " SSDI benefits...

Thank you to all the folks on this list for their many suggestions on how to

do it " well " and " right " and " avoid having to go through it a second time " ...

For whichever reason(s), your suggestions worked, and I am enormously

grateful. Thank you very much. It's not enough to get me out of debt, but

it is certainly welcome, and will keep change in my pocket for at least a

little while - and while I'm angry at having to scrape and beg (so I have

issues) - I truly am thankful for every penny.
