While this group advocates preparing as much from scratch as possible, you may want to try some prepared foods for the package appeal. Stretch Island and Trader Joe's have a variety of fruit leathers that according to the label are legal. Packaged raisins and other dried fruit might be an idea too. Have you checked out websites like Digestive Wellness and... I can't remember the name, something Gourmet? You can order from them -especially the latter, I understand - without worry as everything is totally legal. Take care, Fay
Guest guest
Hi , Fruit Snacks... Joe's favorite mock fruit snack is what we fondly call " Joe Jello " . It's the recipe from Knox Gelatin® for " Knox Blox " . Here's how we parsed it down for smaller batches . 2 envelopes Knox® Gelatin 1/2 c cold fruit juice (we use the Welch's 100% no sugar added White Grape Juice) 1-1/2 c fruit juice heated to boiling 1. Pour 1/2 c cold fruit juice into a 4x4 " sealable plastic container (shallow ones work best for cutting afterwards) 2. Sprinkle powdered gelatin over cold juice and let sit for 1 minute. 3. Add hot juice and stir until gelatin is dissolved. 4. Refrigerate until firm (about 3 hours); slice into small cubes about the size of fruit snacks . .... I've been dying to try a veggie juice of some kind, but haven't made carrot juice yet, not sure how that will taste in a veggie cube form . Good luck ... As always, Carol > > I've noticed some of you post with a note that you are 95% SCD. What > does this mean? Are there little ways to cheat and still see > benefits? Guest guest
You're right Carol F. Kali could not start out the right way and she sometimes steals food from classmates (the teacher is aware and not allowing this to happen if she can help it)and her dad still takes her to get those nuggets from Mcs once a week:(. He says that is her cheat. He feels so bad for her. Even though he understands why we are on this diet. He also must eat the scd foods and I'm sure he cheats himself at work or when I'm not around. It is such a slow process to heal and he can't help giving in. I do wonder how she would be if he didn't give those to her but, this has been a fight from her daddy. I fight with him constantly to eat nutritiously himself. I don't think we have earned the 100% yet and that's why I post 95%. Kali has made an extreme amt. of progress on this diet. I will continue to be as strict with her as I am. Hoping only for things to get better. Should I just stop posting messages altogether or questions and find another place to go for help? I don't want to mess anyone else up. Thanks. Jenn & Kali 95% scd 6 months Re: What is 95% SCD? > > > > > I've noticed some of you post with a note that you are 95% SCD. Guest guest
Considering all my info. about Kali and the replies to the 95% remark, do I have the permission to stay aboard? Are we doing the scd.? I am trying to stick to it as much as possible. Either kick me out now or open those arms a little wider so I can fit here too. I know this is not about compromise but, compliance. Thanks. Jenn Re: What is 95% SCD? > > > > > > > > > > I've noticed some of you post with a note that you are 95% SCD. Guest guest
There are reasons (other than gut issues) why some of our kids have to take a lot of supplements, vitamins and minerals. I'm sure you must have read from other posts about heavy metal toxicity in ASD kids. You may think that we're a bunch of whackos (I might think that, too, if I was not the parent of a child with Autism) but there are thousands of parents who believe in this and many are doing a procedure called chelation with their kids. These vitamins, supplements and minerals are all extremely essential during this process. I won't go into all the reasons but I think other parents would back me up on this. I realize that SCD for Autism is fairly new and people who are doing it strictly for GI issues cannot possibly understand the other factors involved for our kids. Please just keep in mind that it's a whole different ball game for us. Diane PS - I misspoke when I said my son takes 25-30 supplements in my previous post. My son takes about that number of pills per day but it's actually about 15 different products (including vitamins minerals and dietary supplements). _____ From: pecanbread [mailto:pecanbread ] On Behalf Of carolfrilegh Sent: Thursday, November 17, 2005 10:50 AM To: pecanbread Subject: Re: What is 95% SCD? > > > I agree that we should all strive for 100% SCD. Guest guest
Hi Diane, > of that. But when your child also has to take 25-30 supplements per day > it's a little difficult to find all of them without illegals. There is a list of legal and illegal supps at http://pecanbread.com/supplements.html If not listed there you can ask on the list and we may have some suggestions. Like for the oral iron (iron pills). It is on the illegal list because it will aggravate intestinal symptoms - it can cause stomach infections. For more info see " Iron supplements " at http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/g_to_o.htm We usually suggest taking iron rich foods (liver pate...) along with vitamin C rich foods to aid absorption. If this can not be done some get iron shots which will by pass the gut. Sheila, SCD 57 mos, 21 yrs UC mom of , SCD 42 mos
Guest guest
Yes, I've seen the legal supplement list and have replaced the vast majority of my illegal supplements. My son must have iron right now due to chelation and I can't rely on him getting it naturally from his diet. I've also heard of iron in the form of a cream. Does anyone know anything about that?
