This sounds a bit like my son but mine is 7 and we've been doing SCD for 4

months. He never really wanted us to read books to him; just look at them

on his own like you describe. And if we did try, just as you state, he'd

want to take control of the book and look at only the pages he was

interested in looking at, or run away.

Just in the last few weeks he's been requesting that we read to him, paying

fairly good attention and not trying to grab the book. It's nice to have

him sitting quietly next to us while we read (actually, right now, he just

wants Daddy to do it but that's okay!).

I hope your son gives you many more of these precious moments in the future.

Diane

Subject: SCD helping our son?

Hi all,

A little while ago while my son sat in his room spinning a lid or

something (he's done a little less of this since starting SCD) I

suggested we read a book. For a long time he has only wanted to read

alone (look at the book I mean, he's only 3 and can't read!) and turn

to certain pages he likes. He'd take his book and go sit on the floor

by himself. Anyway, he said " yes " to my suggestion, so we sat

together on the rocking chair and I proceded to read him the whole

book The Cat in the Hat Comes Back (it's a long one) without him

trying to take control or leave to be on his own. I'm very

encouraged! He did not pay 100% attention as I read, but to sit

through a whole book is quite an accomplishment. This is only our 7th

day on SCD. He also seems to quite easily answer yes or no questions

while before he'd usually just repeat the question.
