Guest guest
Hi Jackie and other Fraidy Cats Like Me: I was petrified even when I sent in my PI form, then petrified again when my insurance said yes, then petrified again so much so that I delayed sending my packet for almost a week...but I let er rip and mailed it...and got a surgery date. What keeps me going and what keeps me calm in between fits of terror are those post ops who take the time to post; to tell us how well they are doing; to share with us their successes; to share their hard times; to share what it is like after surgery on a day to day basis. I guess I figure if they can do it, so can I. I have never had surgery of any kind. I haven't had any real pain since childbirth and my youngest is 28...so I've had lots of pain-free years. And here I am asking for pain. LOL. I know as time gets closer I will get more scared. The entire clos.net site is filled with information so that we have a healthy respect for what we are doing. And that's a good thing. We should not enter this lightly. I just want those of you who have had this done to know that even when you share your little challenges it is so very helpful to me (and I'm sure to others). Your generosity in taking the time to write about how you eat, what you eat, what supplements you take, how people are reacting to you, what people are saying to you...all of these things keep me going and moving forward toward the goal...the goal of being thin just once in my life. I was 8 the last time I weighed a normal weight and I'm 57 now. Those of you who are pre-op and cheer each other on...well, you're the best...Trish gives out her phone number and offers to chat, others offer to open their homes, and the list of things the folks on this list are willing to do for someone they have never met is a real testament to the goodness in human beings as a whole. Guest guest
-Hi Flo, I want you know that what ever you do don't chicken out of the surgery. Take if from me you will hate yourself afterwards. I was in the holding area waiting to pushed into the or, when I just got up and said I don't want this. I don't know what came over me but I will tell you right now I regret it with every being in my body. Of course I am going back in August, but I wish I had gone ahead with the surgery that day and I would be on the other side right now. So what ever your fear, work it out before you get there, or you will really regret it. Guest guest
: When you were in the holding area did they not give you some Valium or something to help you relax? If not, perhaps in August you should request it -- I know I'm going to on next Thursday (5/25) when I have my surgery!! I had sinus surgery last year in August, and thought I was cool as a cucumber and not nervous about the surgery. Well, I was fine until I was in the holding area and this inconsiderate nurse who was in a hurry gave me no warning and jabbed the IV in my hand (with no lidacain, either). After he did that, my body went into " fight or flight " mode and my heart started racing, I broke into a cold sweat, and I felt like I was going to puke. I told the nurse that I thought I was going to vomit and he just gave me a cold stare like he could care less. Well, it also had some Valium in the pre-surgery " cocktail " and while it did not take all the nervousness away -- it did help immensely. BTW, my sinus surgery was in New Orleans so no one needs to worry about this nurse!!! And, it ended up helping me a lot -- I hope the MGB can do for my weight problem what Sinuclear did for my sinus problem -- I will be one happy camper! Anyway, prior to surgery I am going to ask for both the nausea meds and the valium, because I figure it can't hurt. ************************************************* e gabjones@... *************************************************
