Guest guest
Hi, > It's (*oxalate discussion*) not a dead horse just not living here yet until we get a better handle on more research > regarding SCD, gut bugs, and oxalates before changing existing SCD protocols. I was not trying to change the protocols (gee, sorta sounds like the organic/ digestive enzyme discussion some time ago, lol) - just offering our experience with our son. That would be awfully arrogant considering how much work and time others have put into this site. Just saying it ain't one size fits all, all the time :-) >Our FAQs > do not include discussions of other diets and protocols on this list but there are other > places to learn more about them and participate in such discussions and I encourage > those that are interested to do so. > That's a refreshingly open attitude (sometimes uncommon on message boards, lol)...but you have to realize something exists before you can go look it up elsewhere ;-) I know that I first read about SCD on a gfcf board; and boy am I glad I did. SCD is an excellent resource. But there are a lot of families using its applications...and there is a far cry from a non-verbal asd child with (as yet undertermined) metabolic skews vs a totally cogent adult (or NT child) with IBS, or Crohn's or diverticulitis or " allergies " etc. And many asd " gut kids " do really well on just SCD. Just like some do great on just GFCF. Or Feingold. Etc. But for those who don't 'get all the way', we need to look further. And most of the places parents start looking are with people who understand their parameters (ie decent message boards like this one). It is certainly not my place to suggest 'changing SCD protocols', and I do hope my comments aren't taken that way. But as there ARE (unfortunately) more asd kids coming along, there will be more familes looking for 'out of the box' answers (which is good!). Even on SCD. It's a tool, IMO. Just 'cause you need a saw doesn't mean you throw away the hammer. Carol (or others), I DO understand the benefit of having a message board with a unified purpose...but do you think there is any way to list links or allow (!brief!) discussions of other digestive avenues/supps etc w/out appearing like pecanbread condones it? Like a file for " things some SCD families have found interesting " . Or something similar. Just so people know where to look should they wish to find out more about something w/out taking up lots of board space - as I am now :-)? Or other ideas for when the inevitable question about something else 'non-exclusively-SCD' comes up? I just think it will continue to happen. FWIW. -christine
